Meet our Founder

Renee Scroope

LLH / BBus(Ec)(Hons)  / DipLegalPrac

Former litigator, Renee is a nationally Accredited Mediator who cares about improving access to justice. Her interest in this area began in 2019, when she undertook studies on international law and conflict management at the University of Oxford's school of Society, Politics and Law. Since then, Renee has focused on finding economic solutions for the legal industry. Through Conflict Matters, she offers low-cost ADR services with local legal community centers, where she has been an active volunteer for many years. She is also involved in higher education programs which assist with research towards interdisciplinary conflict management styles and the effectiveness of pre-litigation procedures, such as the various Personal Injury Proceedings Acts.

During her tenure working as a litigator for both domestic and international clients, Renee witnessed the unfortunate shortcomings of Australia's legal landscape. Following her interest in alternative dispute resolution, Renee has contracted as a Conciliator with the Human Rights Commission and advocated for legislative review around legal service accessibility. She has worked with large corporations, including Lloyds of London, to resolve disputes using her effective conflict management styles and expert panel members in consultation with state and federal regulatory bodies, such as the Australian Financial Complaints Authority. Renee has been engaged to provide expert opinion in respect of: workplace conflict and change management, workplace policy, efficiency of pre-litigation processes, and offered viewpoints on various parliament inquiries. Her experience working as a litigator allows Renee to apply a sharp and complex mind to all scenarios.

Conflict Matters was established to spread awareness on the importance of accessible conflict resolution and the economic options clients have in both the private and public sector when navigating Australia's legal industry.

Mediation and Conciliation

Mediation helps parties openly discuss concerns, explore options, and reach future agreements. The mediator ensures respectful, productive communication but does not provide legal advice. They may offer information about alternatives to mediation when appropriate. Renee, a qualified lawyer and trained mediator, can also provide legal insights and suggest resolution options, a process known as conciliation. Mediation duration varies from one hour to several days, but typically takes 3-4 hours. Mediation is much more cost-effective than escalating disputes to legal proceedings. Mediators are trained in conflict resolution, helping parties explore the causes of their dispute and find lasting solutions that improve relationships. Early conflict management leads to better outcomes. We serve large government agencies and commissions, offering mediations online globally. Specialising in workplace, civil, corporate, and commercial disputes, our panel of experts, led by founder Renee Scroope, is ready to assist. Contact us to discuss your options.
